VVC IN SFMOMA
We had a long overdue, yet still incomplete, Villa Villa Cola reunion at the ‘Get In The Game’ Artists’ Reception at SFMOMA last month because Jeffrey Cheung and Gabriel Ramirez who curated the ‘Unity Through Skateboarding’ show included our zines, films, photos, a board graphic, and even one of my paintings in their show. It was so wonderful to all be there together and to see this heart sparkling show. It was also the first event of Unity Fest so there was a lot of skate family in town for that too. Tiffany, Nicole, Faye, and I stood around marveling at seeing our zines laid out preciously under glass in a display case as they thought back to when there was a Beautiful Losers exhibit in the early 2000’s they had snuck a VVC sticker into a similar looking display case covertly to “voluntarily” join the exhibit. Haha! Now we were LEGIT in a display case! We kept talking about making a new VVC zine where we interview our past selves from the future and ask our 20 year old selves what we think is going on here in 2024 where we have our zines in the Museum of Modern Art? We are very honored and grateful to be included in this very special collection of art, artists, skateboarders, histories, presents, and futures.
